All eyes on Haflinger horses and equestrian sports

This year, the very first edition of the Haflinger Sports Days took place in Merano/Meran on the second weekend in October. Held at the occasion of the traditional Autumn Gallop Races, the tournament featured Western riding, show jumping and driving in a bid to offer a major stage for a number of slightly less well-represented disciplines. With the Merano/Meran Equestrian Centre just around the corner from the race track, the venue was an ideal choice: perfect for putting the spotlight on the Haflinger breed.

The much-anticipated grand finale of the Autumn Gallop Races might have been the official highlight of the weekend, but the crowds proved to be equally enthusiastic about the winners of each day's contests and when the South Tyrolean medallists were honoured for their achievements at the 2018 European Haflinger Championship.
